HOW PLASTIC CLOTHES CREATE PLASTIC WATER
Modern environmental studies are disappointing. If you think that plastic bags and cups carelessly thrown on the shore are the only such threat to the oceans, you are greatly mistaken.
The main threat is caused by washing clothes made of synthetic fabrics: polyester, acrylic, nylon, etc. These fibers contribute to subtle but ubiquitous plastic pollution in the ocean. One load of laundry can release hundreds of thousands of fibers from our clothes into the plumbing.
Tiny fibers less than 5 millimeters long eventually reach the ocean. There, they amplify microplastic pollution, which accumulates in the food chain and is ingested by marine animals and even humans.
So, in my opinion, it is obvious that there is no ethical alternative to natural fabrics.
Yes, of course, handmade clothes made from natural fabrics are more expensive than polyester clothes created by mass market and fast fashion.
But do we really need a lot of cheap clothes?
Or do we need environmentally friendly clothes in which we look original and feel truly comfortable?
