FASHION STYLIST IN ASIA

When I moved to Asia, I was very upset about the lack of quality clothes at affordable prices. That is, there are a lot of cheap clothes, but almost all of them are made of synthetic fabrics, tailored to the Asian figure.

But for me, as a stylist who has worked in the European market for more than 20 years, such an obstacle is nothing more than an interesting task. I began to study more closely the work of local designers, the history of local national costumes, and the local handicraft production of natural fabrics in the north of Thailand. To my great joy, I discovered a lot of interesting ideas and possibilities.

In this article, I would like to share with you my thoughts and discoveries.

But first things first! Let's start with simple and obvious things:

  1. We live in a tropical climate. It is almost always hot and humid, with an often-scorching sun.
  2. The cultural codes and local aesthetics are very different from those of Europeans. It is important to “fit” into this cultural environment while remaining yourself because you cannot change yourself, your body, or your skin color. And why would you?
  3. Ready-to-wear is tailored to the Asian body type.

How to solve this while you are living in Asia or in other countries with tropical climate? I talk about it this in the following article: How to dress in a tropical climate?
